[Akira stumbles a little at the shove, but he steadies himself by catching his hands at Duo's waist. There's a shit-eating smirk on his face at the reaction he's getting.]

He absolutely wasn't expecting Akira to call his bluff. He could easily back out, apologize, retreat to the bedroom and hide until his face stops burning and his heart stops pounding.
But he's also stupidly stubborn. He knows who he's challenging.
Maybe that's why he doesn't buckle even though he feels like his heart might explode out of his chest at any second. He wants to know who is going to renege first if this keeps going.
But more than that, he wants to know what will happen if neither of them do.]
[Akira's bravado actually falters, at least for a moment. The last time he confessed to someone, his heart was broken. The last time he kissed someone here in Chroma, she tried to kill him and rip out his heart. The last time he had sex, it was with a demon who wanted to avenge her lover, and almost succeeded.
Somehow Duo seems interested neither in tearing out his heart and stomping on it, figuratively or literally. Simply, he has someone who likes him for who he is.
Right now, that's all Akira needs to know. He draws him closer, hands still at his waist, and kisses him roughly.]

He could be rude sometimes, not always the best person despite having a generally good heart, but he absolutely wasn't the sort to emotionally toy with or tear someone else down just because. Akira was his friend. The last thing he wanted to do was hurt him.
He did want to know what would happen if neither of them backed down. Really, this should have been expected, especially given how close Akira already was before this foolish game of chicken started, but the rough kiss still managed to startle him slightly. There's a faint noise from him, a hesitation, physically tensing.
It lasts for all of half a second. Surprise quickly melts away, hand lifting to gently touch Akira's cheek as he presses in to the kiss, uncertainty fluttering in his chest that was battling with a rising hunger for more.]
